Echo Park

The project aims to enhance employee well-being by leveraging the opportunity to raise awareness on key issues such as upcycling, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and the importance of reducing CO₂ emissions.

Concept and development

Echo Park was conceived by the Rome branch with the goal of creating a comfortable area for staff, collaborators, and drivers—a space to relax and enjoy quality breaks together. The entire project is rooted in the concept of upcycling, using end-of-life packaging materials from the logistics chain. Iron containers, pallets, and crates originally used for transporting artworks were creatively repurposed to build not only the structure itself but also the furnishings, setups, and three booksharing libraries, following a circular logic of material recovery and enhancement.

Project execution

Collaboration with a network of partners represents the most innovative and distinctive aspect of the project. Medihospes, one of Italy’s leading social cooperatives that promotes the reception and integration of refugees and manages the SAI program, launched a professional training course for seven asylum seekers. The project offered them the opportunity to take part in a 216-hour internship organized by Laboratorio Linfa—an artisan workshop that promotes eco-design through an innovative participatory design approach. The trainees learned woodworking skills and received a certificate that supports their entry into the job market.
Linaria, a non-profit organization, was responsible for the design and coordination of the work, creating an innovative green infrastructure—an actual biodiversity station. This element of the sustainable urban garden is adaptable to any context and scalable in size according to needs, serving as a vehicle to promote healthy and sustainable practices. It hosts a variety of plant species and Bugs Hotels: shelters for wild bees and pollinating insects, built from recycled pallet wood sourced from FERCAM’s logistics operations.
