How we started

The idea for the Echo Labs project began with a simple need at FERCAM’s Rome branch: to create an eco-sustainable relaxation area for warehouse staff, drivers, and employees, a welcoming space where they could enjoy a truly restorative break. We started with two decommissioned swap bodies, which our technicians modified and repainted, transforming them into a functional and inviting environment.

Just as a single drop can create ever-expanding ripples, this small initiative quickly grew in scope. It became clear that it was possible to generate a meaningful and positive impact on both people and the environment, leaving a mark to be proud of. That’s how Echo Labs was born.

Mission

Echo Labs is a social enterprise committed to promoting innovation within the logistics supply chain through a sustainable growth model, placing people’s well-being and the responsible management of resources at its core.

It drives a systemic approach focused on developing circular economy processes, social inclusion, biodiversity, and the regeneration of living and working environments—connecting a network of individuals and organizations that share the same values and goals. Its mission aligns with the UN 2030 Agenda, and in particular with Goal 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

Echo Labs is a permanent laboratory of research and innovation, dedicated to developing concrete, scalable solutions co-designed in partnership with businesses, universities, schools and young people, local authorities, and third-sector organizations—starting from the territories in which they operate.

Our social commitment

Echo Labs is dedicated to promoting initiatives that generate meaningful impact on societal well-being while enhancing cultural and environmental heritage. We strive to integrate both environmental protection and socially beneficial actions into our projects.

An example? Involving political refugees and asylum seekers in material upcycling and the creation of biodiversity stations through structured internship programs. Or delivering educational and awareness-raising initiatives in collaboration with schools of all levels, as well as offering social volunteering opportunities for employees of partner companies.

Echo Labs is built on a major circular economy project centered on upcycling—the process of transforming materials at risk of being wasted into products with new functions and uses, with the goal of extending their life cycle.

Research plays a key role in the development of our projects. In collaboration with universities and research institutions, we create innovative, functional, and scalable solutions.

Working with schools is essential to spreading a culture of sustainability among younger generations. These partnerships offer research and reflection opportunities for students of all ages through workshops and volunteer activities. Above all, they promote an original and virtuous organizational model—based on the sharing of skills, knowledge, resources, and passion.

Permanent laboratory

Echo Labs presents itself as an experimental and innovative practice designed for initiatives driven by social, ecological, and environmental goals. It adopts participatory and inclusive methods, integrating research, hands-on practice, and education to offer a concrete experience of collaboration—where the key factor is the involvement of a diverse network of partners: businesses, universities, third-sector organizations, local communities, and institutions interested in contributing to scalable actions, from pilot projects to widespread systemic impact.

The laboratory acts as a platform for social and environmental reflection on recycling, reuse, and the development of a virtuous, circular economy. We operate by researching functional solutions that are always sustainable and ecological, developed within a dynamic environment shaped by diverse perspectives, cultural cross-pollination, and hybrid approaches.
